Blues at Surf City Pier / First spanish of the season also caught today

I went fishing on SCP this morning. Caught a nice blue, 17 inches long. Blue filets for supper. Got her soaking in Franks Hot Sauce.  I saw two nice black drum, one was 7 lb, (caught by new Fishin' Topsail member Kim), the other blue was not quite as big. Big Tim caught another sheepshead this morning. He had two more he caught yesterday evening. The water was very calm, to calm for mullet or spot fishing. There were a good supply of blues, anyone willing to walk to the piers end could coax a blue to hit a gotcha plug.

The big news today, for me anyway, was the catching of the first spanish mackerel by Fishin' Topsail Facebook member Tyler Crumpler.   Congrats to Kim, Big Tim, and Tyler for their catches. I met new friends on the pier yesterday and today, and saw some good old friends as well.  Also shout out to Norman who came all the way from Nashville Tennessee just to fish from Surf City Pier.

If you haven't gotten to Surf City Pier house to get your new "The Piers of Topsail Island" T-Shirts, they are selling out fast. Don't wait, it would be a shame to miss these great T-Shirts!

Sand fleas are in the surf, but mostly holding in water about a 12 or 14 inches deep. Got to dig for them, but they are there.

Had a Surf City Pier Grill hotdog for lunch.  Man, just as good as last year!

Till next time....
Tight lines!
Johnny
